Security Questions

Is EmigrantOnline™ safe?

To maintain the trust of our customers, we take every precaution to ensure the security of your account access and account data. EmigrantOnline™ security features-- including your user name and password--are designed to give you complete confidence when banking and paying bills online.

  1. Your accounts and data are protected against unauthorized access by "industrial strength" firewalls, state-of-the-art security protocols and end-to-end encryption.

  2. After 10 minutes of inactivity, you will be logged off the system automatically. This protects your privacy should you inadvertently leave your browser running while connected to your accounts.

  3. To ensure security when transmitting account data, EmigrantOnline™ requires that you use a browser with 128-bit encryption, specifically Version 6.0 or higher of Microsoft Internet Explorer, Version 3.0 or higher of Firefox, Version 9.0 or higher of Opera or Version 3.0 or higher of Safari. If your browser doesn't meet these requirements, you will have an opportunity to upgrade online during enrollment. Upgrading is easy, and it's free.

  4. You should never reveal your user name or password to anyone. In fact, we recommend that you change your password on a regular basis which you can easily do online.

What makes one browser more secure than another?

Earlier versions of Microsoft Explorer and Netscape browser, Versions 3.0 and lower, used a less secure 40-bit encryption which refers to the number of characters that make up the security code. 40-bit encryption is not powerful enough to protect financial transactions. The 128-bit encryption required for EmigrantOnline™ is the highest and strongest level of encryption supported by the federal government for commercial use, and will ensure the protection of your account data.
